Dan and I got back with no problems. We had a great time, met some new people. I was pleased the swinger was running 16.82-16.95 all day saturday, sunday's time trials it had slowed to 17.15 and 17.13. Imagine my dismay when I broke out with a 17.05 after lifting hard at 3/4 track with a 17.13 dial. Congrats to Ryan on that run.
It was really exciting to me to see Thomas do so well. This young man showed up Sunday "just to see what the car would do" He had no idea there was a slant class. We heard him come in and Greg and Dan both went over and encouraged him to come over and hang with us. When he came over I went over the tech card with him, we installed a 1 litre coke bottle overflow on his 73 Swinger. I told him when you go tech you want to be in the slant6 class (his tech card was for sportsman) He followed me up got teched in and the fun began. He has some slant fun parts and now is seriously considering building up his swinger. He went home with $100, at 3rd place trophy, and a big smile. This was his first time racing.

I had a great time and it was nice to meet the slant 6 racers. I was on the show side of the track but next year I'll plan on being on the track side. I was watching the slants race and missed my opportunity for a one time car show side time trial run. There was only 3 cars entered in the 1960-'66 (non-modified) A-Body class. I might have won a trophy but they kept pushing the award time back and I had to get going.

Mason/Dixon is in a beautiful valley, the weather was fantastic, and a good time was had by all.

Lou and Greg's cars are real runners but that Ron Hamby - how does he do that? 12.20 - geez! He told me he has an A-904, shifts about 6500 rpm, and has no turbo, nitrous, or supercharger. Must have a small converter, that thing screams all the way down the track.

Well, I'm very happy with this weekend at Hagerstown.

BIG thanks to Rick Covalt for setting up and hosting this race, and BIG thanks to Mason-Dixon Dragway (1/4 mile) for one of the smoothest and most fun Slant races I've been to. Rick and the track really made everyone feel welcome - they must have plugged us on the loudspeaker about every 1/2 hour!

We met some new Slanted friends - Charles, Rick, Ryan, Maynard, Thomas, Chris, Pat, and Kevin. Hopefully we can make this an even bigger event next year!

Ron and Kay Hamby and I met for dinner on the way back down on I81, and we all commented on the complete lack of shennanigans, fast track, and beautiful pits and nice track personnel. The crowd loved us and Ron said he had never gotten so many great comments on his car. The return road running in front of the stands was a great touch too.

I was very happy just to be running 14s with this motor on Sat, then richened it up a little and made a best run of 14.57 @ 94.6 MPH on Sun(finals run, 0.002 breakout). This was something like my 30th Slant race, and finally a win, so I guess it can happen with a little luck.

I'll be writing a SSRN article for this shortly. Please send me pics if you have them.

Thanks to everyone!!

Lou

PS, party at my house this Thursday night! In attendance so far will be Charlie Schmid, Greg Ondayko, and Frank and Cinda Brent...

A big THANKS to Rick Covalt for organizing this awesome race!! He did an outstanding job! As it has been mentioned before, this track was not only a great venue, but we were treated on par with the other racers by the track personnel.

Wish we had a bigger turnout, but it did not affect the amount of fun!

Can't say enough how cool it was for Phil and Dan to help out Thomas. They went up to him and introduced themselves and proceeded to make a slant racer out of him in a matter of hours! This is the kind of thing we need to do more of at the races to expand ourselves. Kudos to Phil and Dan!

A HUGE CONGRATS to Lou on his first slant race win! It was a long time coming! Always nice to see a manual stick car do so well! I think this was the first race I have attended with more than one manual car! Ron was running tough all weekend, and it was a great final pairing to represent the slants.

On a personal note, I picked up 2 full seconds in the 1/4 mile by swapping to a Holley 500cfm 2bbl on an Offy intake with Clifford shorties going to a 3" pipe exhaust. Nothing done whatsoever to the engine. Progress is slow, but one thing at a time.

Brian

Chris,

If that 67 runs as well as you tell jokes, we'll all need to watch out...

Great to see ya,

Lou

I posted a video of the 2009 Mason Dixon Slant Six Race. It has all of the elimination rounds, with some good slant 6 racing. Here is the link to you tube. I have never done this before, so let me know if it doesnt work.

I think I got it figured out. I had the video set to private instead of public. I just tried it on a different computer and it opened up so I hope I have it figured out. This is a video of the entire slant six race. It has all of the elimination rounds through to the final with Ron Hamby and Lou Madsen. There is a really good race with Lou and Greg darts they were both running Mid 14's. I hope it works this time.

You pegged it - nice video. I have done videos for the Killer Bees, and am trying different things. When we had 28 cars show up, I tried something different. Unfortunately I didn't get all the photos I needed for it to be perfect. In this sample, I had to find a non posed photo of Sergio. That is why his photo looks a little different. The video is rough around the edges in that way, since it was something new I tried. Next time though, I would be more prepared. And 28 cars was a lot of work. Hopefully you can view this sample clip I put on photobucket. If you like doing video work, see if you like this format. If so, try it out. And if not, got any other ideas? I am always trying to come up with new ideas.

63dartdude, I really like the format you used for your video, the pictures/times were really neat. If I get some time I might try to do something like that on the mason dixon video just to practice with formats. I'd like to see the completed video when your finished.
