Can you buy sure grip units and different gears new? I have a 7 1/4 rear, i'm not sure what gears are in it. I don't know what all the #s mean on my fender tag, can you help?

Gears, yes. Randy's Ring and Pinion, had gears available. In fact they recently had a special on 4.10 gears.
Suregrip, I don't know of any, but check with Randy's, they also have axel shafts listed in an ad.

When I did my rears, most all the parts were good quality. I would try to get bearings that are not made in a third world country. Try to stay with a brand name. Set the pinion depth with a guage, and keep the backlash, on the minimum side, of the spec. Bearing preload is critical, so don't get slopy here. When done, get your work with a tooth pattern check.

Charlie, where does one even get bearings made in a first-world country anymore? Seems any bearing or seal I buy anymore sez "CHINA" or "TAIWAN" (second-world countries?) on it, even NAPA stuff. Where can you get good ole' US of A (or Canada) bearings :?:
