I have a '64 Valiant Signet 200 convertible, that I suspect has a non-original trunk lid.

My present lid has no scripts; the only "decoration" is the red/blue Valiant "V" inside of a large circle with a black inset; it sits at center, on the lower 1/3 of the deck lid.

From what I've seen in my Carspotter's book, this deck lid is from a '63...?


Are are '64 Valiants the same, or were there different trunk badges for the Signets / regular Valiants ?

I happen to have 3 trunk lids off of 64-65 "cudas, near Chicago. Would a Cuda one fit your Valiant?? All in decent condition and reasonable.

The emblem you describe is for an American-built 1963 Valiant Signet 200. The 1963 V-200 had a circular emblem with a bar across it while the V-100 had "Valiant" in script in the centre. Both the V-200 and V-100 had a small "by Plymouth" nameplate on the lower right edge of the lid. Both the V-200 and the Signet 200 had a finish plate below the trunk lid between the backup lights.

The 1964 Valiants (U.S. edition) trunk lids -

V-100 : "Valiant" in script and a small "by Plymouth" nameplate on the lower right edge of the lid

V-200 : Valiant "V" in the lower centre with "Valiant" in script and a small "by Plymouth" nameplate on the lower right edge of the lid. Also had a finish plate across the panel below the trunk lid.

Signet 200 : Valiant "V" in the lower centre of the lid. Also had a finish plate across the panel below the trunk lid.

My car does have the ribbed aluminum trim strip on the lower trunk panel...looks like somebody did a deck-lid transplant.

I also have a different key for the doors than for the ignition switch, which makes me think the doors are from another car too...

Ah, the fun and discovery involved in old cars !

You can fix that different door key/ignition key problem pretty cheaply
I just had to do this to my 93 Wrangler as I built 1 Jeep out of 2, and I
wound up having to replace the ignition switch and it didn't match the key from either Jeep that I had to scrounge from. I took the door and tailgate locks out and dropped em off at the locksmith, and for $24 they rekeyed all 3 lock cylinders to match the ignition, which CANNOT be rekeyed. So
you have to match the doors to the ignition, NOT the other way around.

To add to my initial post, I took a look at the under side of my trunk lid, and on the hollow under bracing, at the lower right rear corner, there are holes punched in the under bracing to allow access for script /badge mounting screws, but no evidence that the decklid was ever drilled or a badge mounted at the corner...no holes mudded-up or such.

Does this further identify the year of my deck lid?

(It has only the red & blue "V in a Circle" at the center of the lid. Car is a '64 Valiant Signet 200 convertible)
