Hi all,

Can anybody tell me what the correct description of the bolts that attach the rear spring hanger to the body? They are kinda 3/8" coarse, but they expand out, and a regular 3/8" bolt is loose in there. I broke one off, and I need to get a new one. Does D/C still carry them? I would look in the parts DB, but it appears to be down again.

Thanks,

Greg

I just got back from a dodge dealership, and yes, the bolts are somehow special, and of course, they are discontinued. Any thoughts on where I should look? Does somebody have two sitting around the garage that they could part with?

Thanks,

Greg

If you only broke one off, the other 3 should locate the perch just fine. I say just use a standard 3/8" grade 8 bolt.

They are hub bolts, basically smaller versions of lug bolts. They have splines under the head to keep them from spinning in the hanger. A regular bolt will work okay but if you really, really need an original you can get it from AMK Products. They cost $1 each.

Hi Andy and Lou,

I'll call AMK. They might be able to help. The bolts that I am looking for are from the rear hanger, not the front (rear) spring hanger. The nut is welded on to the subframe, and I believe, that I cannot get in behind it to put on a nut that actually fits. This is why I am actually looking for the orginal bolts, and not just grade 8. I will check to see if I can get behind it when I get home tonight.

The bolt in question is some sort of self tapping bolt, and it does expand in diameter slightly to something slightly larger than 3/8.

Thanks, though, and maybe AMK could help.

Update: I just checked AMK's website. $30 minimum order! Arghh. Any other suggestions? This was really close, and I really appreciate your collective expertise.

Update II: It is looks possible, but difficult to get in behind the bolt to put a better nut back t here. Arghh!

Thanks,
Greg

I was looking at Tom Condran's book, and he is referring to these at 7/16". Since they are tapered, this might be the major part of the bolt.

Hmm... I'll have to check this out.

Greg
