Hi guys,

just starting to rebuild my first carb and wanted to check on the float adjustment. I read on the FSM that the depth of float from the bowl edge when turned upside down should be 7/32". When I pulled out the cardboard gauge that came with the kit, I checked it on 1/4", and the floats came a fair distance past the gauge. So I'm guessing I'm supposed to bend the lever a little bit to bring this closer into line, but I wanted to be sure I was checking the level correctly before I mussed it all up.

Can someone confirm I am measuring this correctly?

That is how you do it, bend the brass tab to adjust the level. Make sure the needle valve assembly is tight before doing the adjustment.

On the Carter carbs you can run the level on the low side without any problems, fact is that a lower float level helps hot restarts. (less fuel in the bowl to "boil over")

I know when I have gone to low on my float adjustment when I feel a "lean surge" on hard cornering with the throttle on. (like a freeway on-ramp) :shock: :twisted:
