Hello everyone,

I just bought a 225 engine and tranmission from a 1962 Savoy, and I wanted to see how this would mate up with my existing setup in my 1962 Lancer. The Lancer has a 170 engine and the corresponding transmission. The new engine also has a 3 speed automatic trans, but I wasn't sure if this b-body trans from the Savoy would be compatible with my existing setup.

Question: Can I swap in BOTH the trans and the engine from the savoy to my A-Body lancer? Or will the trans not be compatible?

Information please!

Thanks!

MJ

The transmission on your car is the early A style that is rotated over like the engine to keep the tunnel low and I don't think the B body trans was. Also, the 170's had a different 1st gear ratio from the 225's. If the case on the Savoy tranny won't lean over then you might still be able to swap the internals to your case but I'm not the expert there. Anybody know for sure?

EDIT to disregard the above.

Doh! I saw the "3-speed" but not the "automatic". Yes if it's an A-904 it should slide right in there like it was made for it (which it was) just by changing the pan as Doug said.

The B-Body oil pan would have to be swapped with the A-Body 170 oil pan and pick-up tube.

The 904 automatic should swap right-in, is your current trans an automatic or is it a manual shift, "3-on-the-tree" set-up?

My current trans is a 3 speed automatic pushbutton. So you guys are telling me other than taking off my oil pan from the 170, I am golden? no adapters? No messing around?

Will I need some special adapters for the push-button trans on my Lancer to mate up with this new trans?

Doug, please make my day and just say it again I CAN do this swap =)

You need no adaptors; the trans control cables already in your Lancer will go directly onto the new trans.

Doug: been awhile since I looked at the engine section of the FPC, but my recollection was that the oil pans and pickups varied in the early years by engine displacement (170, 225) rather than by car body. I know the sump location changed a bit in '67 or '68, but what's the difference you've found between an A-body oil pan and a B-body pan?
