 Post subject: 360 head/intake gasket?
PostPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2005 6:45 pm
I know its a non /6 question but...... I am just finishing rebuilding the 360 in my truck. When I put the performer intake manifold on the c shaped hole in the head just above the heat crossover is outside the manifold and in the open. No intake gasket Ive found covers this hole. Do I need a special gasket or blockoff? Thanks in advance..... I'm gonna try and install it this weekend so any help would be appreciated............

That "C" shaped hole stays open. it is a blind hole. Just an airspace between the exhaust cross over port in the head and the rest of the head.

Same hole is open on my 318 too. If you spill water down there and run the enigne then the water boils and pops and shoots out of those holes!

Since exhaust gases flows thru that hole, I would suspect it is for cooling purposes.

My guess is just an air gap to keep from transfering exhaust heat into the head above that area. Otherwise it would cook the oil under the valve covers.
