Post subject: | Moog K-7042 idler |
Does anyone have this installed on their car or at least an up close picture of one? While working on my front end (man, too man simultaneous projects) and putting in a new moog idler, its an excellent fit except for one thing, the zerk on the k-frame end isn't in the right position. On the idler I took off, the zerk was right where the arm meets the end, in the corner there. On the replacment moog I got, the zerk is further away from that corner, so it smacks into the k-frame and limits steering wheel range. I don't know if its just that this one was mis-drilled, or if thats just how they are. Does anyone have a picture of a moog k7042 that shows where the zerk is? Installed or not, doesn't matter just as long as I can see where the zerk goes in. |

Hmmm, guy at the auto store just called me and said the zerk on the second idler he orderd is in same position as the other. Wonder whats going on here.... I don't want to have to notch the k-frame for this. |

Was it also a Moog? Moog parts were discussed here recently; apparently theyre cheap Chinese knockoff parts now. You may want to return them and go with an alternate brand like Dana/Spicer or something. |

The explanation probably lies in This thread. Try a different brand. Try a TRW.

Yes they were both moog, as I specified Moog when ordering. The box says federal mogul made in USA. I thought trw was previously considerd the cheap chinese alternative... is it all of a sudden good now? |

Anyone know what the threads are on a zerk fitting? Wondering if I can just use a setscrew or a short screw as a plug, or perhaps just a smidg of silicon so that when I need to regrease I can pull it out all in one piece. |

Zerk fittings usually have tapered pipe thread. PTF or NPT |
