Now that I have gotten from the engine compartment and the outside of the car (need a good polish still so recommendations are appreciated), I'm ready to start trying to clean the old vinyl. Its in very good shape, with just a few scuffs and marks. What do you guys recommend? Also, any chance of cleaning off those old carpets? I own a little green cleaner (not steam powered) that I could try, but thought i'd ask for any secrets first. Thanks! MJ |

http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=66519#66519 For vinyl I use Spray Nine, it has phosphoric acid in it so it will clean beautifully but DON'T use it often and follow up with a vinyl protector like ScotchGard or something afterwards. I used the Meguiar's three-tiered line the last time I waxed a car but I havent done anything to my own cars as I plan to repaint them all and wax interferes with paint blending to old panels, so its been a while. Go to a commercial auto body supply store and you will find commercial waxing products that almost certainly will be more effective than consumer products (they are WHMIS controlled and arent as concerned with lawsuits from idiots using wax as mustard on their hotdogs and such, so the formulations tend to be stronger.) |

With the paint you can't beat the 3 step process use a top brand. 1. Cleaner 2. Polish 3. Wax Your arms will be sore but you can't beat it. As for as thge vynil goes if you use a standard car cleaning product I highly recommend getting a nice interior cleaning brush. Clean in the shade Let the cleaner take time to work.(but don't let it dry) You may need several applications for real dirty spots. When you use the brush do not scrub hard. When done finish everything off with a good vynil protectant. |

WD-40 can also be used on vinyl. Removes grease, tar, undercoating and those really tough stains. Follow it up with some of those armor all wipes. |
