I have a 8.25 with a sure grip from an F Body.
I also have a 8.25 thats open from an A Body.
Not sure of the ratios on either.

The rear is going to end up in a 64 Dart

Because the F body rear is wider, I don't want to go through the trouble of cutting off perches and welding on new ones. (my welding skills suck)

How hard is it (assuming it's possible) to transfer the sure grip from the F body rear, into the A body rear?

Will it fit? I know there is an issue with the numerically low carriers being able to swap gears, not sure if it applies to the suregrip as well.

If it will swap, can it be done with out re-setting up the ring and pinion? or will it have to be re-shimmed and such.

I've never seen a suregrip, so bear with me if these are 'less than intelligent' questions...

It's a completely intelligent question. The sure grip is in the differential, which is the centremost component of the rear axle assembly. So, yes, you'd have to disassemble the rear axle, swap the open diff for the sure-grip, and reassemble, which -- again, yes -- would require setting up the ring/pinion mesh.

I just noticed that I posted this in the wrong section.... sorry about that....

Thanks Dan. I was kind of afraid that this was going to be the answer. However, on the plus side, since I have to take it apart, I may as well swap in some numerically higher gears! :D

thanks
