i have a question, well yeah!

okay so check it out.. if i have the pertronix flame thrower 2 coil, which has an internal resistor, and i switch over to the orange box with the electronic distributor, do i have to run a ballast resistor?

i'm sorry guys, i've been cracking my head trying to figure out a setup....

thanks

That's part of the answer. The other part is how much?

Too little resistance will cause the orange box to overheat and burn out more quickly. I don't really know how close you need to be for things to be O.K., but I did run a standard ECU/coil without a balast resistor for about a year until the coil died, ECU is still going strong, but balast and new coil (stock) is now in place for several months.

I think you will be fine without, but I'm hardly an electrical expert.

OK I'll second that since I got a 6AL too, and then we'll cover for each other when the GM HEI squad attacks leading by.... SSD? :)

You need the GM HEI setup, it is much better than anything else in the whole world!
It is a nice setup anyway.
As is the msd
Or XXXXXXXXXXX
Or ZZZZZZZZZZZ
Or _____________

______________ is good for a stock daily driver.
XXXXXXXXXXX is better with a built engine and more rpm´s

I guess it is pretty much up to you...
I like the stock mopar electronic ignition.
Or HEI...

HEY, awright, nuttin wrong with the HEI. Just that if when you hit the bed you picture a part of your beloved mopar that came from the insides of a shivvy.... well, I prefer dreamin' of freddy krueger. C'mon, it's like alien: yoou *know* is gonna change your behavior and eat your guts to find his way out your turned-into-host body. ¡Yikes! no goodnight sleep for me tonight if I were on HEI.

There's HEI quitting clinics that give you MSDONE instead...

By the way, the HEI quitting clinic is sponsored by Betty Ford and the Dodgers, among many other non gov organisations.
