Hello All,
I need a new radiator for my Dart. The top tank sprang a couple of leaks. Anyone have a good source? (Good quality, low price, reliable ordering). Should I go with the 2 row or upgrade with a 3 row? I don’t have air conditioning but should I order a radiatior for A/C, I would like to add it later on. I have a 225 with automatic tranny.

Because you have a 1965 model, your options are considerably more open than those with '64 or earlier cars. That's because in '65 the hole in the rad support panel was enlarged horizontally to fit a wider (22") V8 radiator. The Slant cars came with the smaller (19") core, with an extra-wide left bracket to take up the unused space. This arrangement was kept right through the end of A-bodies.

It will be very difficult (essentially impossible) to find an exact replacement for your radiator, with the old-style round top tank. But, you can without too much difficulty find a later A-body radiator (slant or V8) and easily adapt it to your car. This also makes it easy to gain additional radiator capacity.

The only real "gotchya" is hose location. The '70-up radiators use a differently angled bottom outlet, so you need a different hose. Use the one specified for a '71 Dart with 225 engine. If you get a V8 radiator, the top inlet might be over to the right rather than near the centre. If that happens, use a Gates 20450 or Dayco 71013.

Now, where to get such a radiator? Well, that depends. Where do you live, and what's your budget look like? Are we talking "new" or "used"?

Another option is to find someone (e.g. Doctor Dodge) who has a rebuildable radiator similar to yours, and have that done up by a good local radiator shop. Extra cooling capacity can easily be built in using a high-efficiency 3-row core to replace the standard 2-row core.

I am going to buy a new radiator, because of the leaks in the top tank. The tank walls must be thin. Where I live I will probably have to buy this over the internet. Although I haven't checked any of the autoparts stores yet.
