My A833OD saga continues. ...

MANY times I have counted splines and grooves on my ouput shaft (mainshaft) on my 833OD. I get 30 of each, all same size. I have no yoke to slide on the output shaft to connect to a driveshaft so have been looking around everywhere ro that yoke. Three sources told me the tranny had what was called "29 based on 30" and that a yoke having 29 grooves and splines will fit my shaft with 30 and 30. Otheres report the 727 yokes fit. Our archives here don't directly address splines on 833's, kesteb coming closest in Nov 2002.

So, what is true here? Will a 30 spline shaft really go into a 29 groove yoke and I should just get a 727 yoke?

And next,, since I am swapping '64d100 truck stuff around and inserting a 7290 u joint positraction rear end, I would prefer a 7290 u joint yoke....the fact I will have to make a driveshaft is ok, I guess, unless some of you know how long a Mopar drive shaft is ...either from 7290 or 7260 joint centers or measured from some points I can find on my existing driveshaft...a 4 inch diameter 15 spline 7260 deal.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure that 833s used the 727 yoke.

If you want, you can get adapter U-joints to go from 7260-7290. Most driveshaft shops should have them or can get them easily.

I'm using the big U-joint 727 yoke on my 833OD with no complications. I'm not sure of my spline counts, I just did test fits at the tranny shop unitl I got one to slide on that was in good shape.
