NEED some advice. My balancer shatter when I was trying to remove it. I ground it down to get the timing chain cover off. I am thinking of grinding a slit in both ends to cut off but I don't want to damage my crank in suggestions.....

Define "shattered." It sounds like a 3 jaw puller would pull it right off if you have it down to the point that you could get the timing cover off.

go to auto zone & check out the puller-- install it on the balancer & tighten up the puller-- the balancer will slide right off!!!!!

The timing cover came completely free of the motor? So there is only
the "hub" of the converter left? Am I getting the correct picture?

Here is what I would try -
If there are no longer bolt holes left for the balancer puller and the
three jaw puller fails. I would look into the hole in the front where
the crank goes through. Find the slot for the woodruff key. Very
carefully cut or grind down through the balancer hub to the slot.
Do NOT hit the crank with the cutting tool. If you hit the woodruff
key you may need to replace it. I would ONLY cut from one side
down to the key slot - I think there is not much chance of slotting the
other side without damaging the crank.

After you break through to the slot try the three jaw puller again.
If that still doesn't free it up a wedge (cold chisel) in the slot that
was just cut may help.
