Has anyone used the manifold from laysons restorations? It says "Dual Exhaust Manifold Get that Dual Exhaust sound and power with this converted original manifold with new casting. 2 separate manifolds."

It is only $125 so Im not sure of the quality or performance. Are the maniflods any good or not?

Isn't that Doug Dutra's manifold?

Im not sure if it is the dutra set or not. I thought that they were more expensive than that though arent they?

for $125 it sure sounds like a deal. then you go ahead and mention layson's. they are famous for the old "bait and switch" and wouldn't trust their ads nor their phone help any further than i could throw them, especially when it comes to narrow body stuff.

Ok, If those are the dutra duals then which ones do you think give better performance? The clifford headers or the dutra duals?

For racing, good tube headers would likely give better performance.
For all around use, I'd like Dutra Duals. Carb heat is a good thing for a lot of us, and you're not giving up that much flow to the headers. Being cast iron, they'll last longer, too.

Layson's offering is a Dutra Duals from a less-friendly source. Dutra Duals are better than headers for most non-race purposes.

At that price ($125), I wonder if Laysons, isn't trying to dump the ones they have in stock, and can't sell. If I remember corectly, they were charging over $400, at one time. We shall see. At $125 price I can afford a set, so I ordered it this morning.

Laysons never keeps my manifolds in their inventory, they call me up and have me send them sets as they get orders.
There is no way I could sell anyone a set of DDauls for 125.00, that is way below my cost to make a set.

OK Doug. I like the DD setup for a street slant, but just didn't have the money for a normally priced set. At the price Laysons has them listed for, I figured I would put a set on the shelf, for future use. I did receive a web order confirmation, yesterday. But my credit card has not been charged yet.

I have not changed my opinion of Laysons being a vendor of last resort. Got phone call, stating the $125 price is the core charge for the stock manifold. The price of the DD setup is over $425 (misplaced the exact amount), with $125 being returned when they receive the core. This is the thrird bad experiance I have had with Laysons. Needless to say, I cancelled the order.

When something sounds too good to be be true it usually isn't. However, if I had room in my budget I would likely have done the same. Trouble is, that explanation doesn't really hold water because as I recall, and I thought it odd at the time, they have two listings; one with a core and one without for the same $125.00. It could be a simple case of an incorrectly written web page but it sounds like there is a pattern of this kind of thing. Someone earlier mentioned "bait and switch." Still, 425.00 less the 125.00 core return leaves a net price of $300.00... how does that compare to the direct price from DD?

The actual price of the manifold through Layson's is $459.00 + $125.00 for the core charge. I did the same as Charlie S, I ordered them online, hoping that the price was correct, but assuming it was wrong(I have a paper catalog with the correct price listed). Sure enough I got a call yesterday to my answering machine. I called back today to receive the news of the mistake.

If I knew I would never have need of Layson's products or services in the future I might have tried to get them to stick to their posted price(just like businesses are required to do when their shelf labels are incorrect). But since they are one of the few businesses that cater to the early A-body crowd and have some products that noone else does I decided to let it slide as an honest mistake and protect our relationship.

Yep, that puts a whole new light on the issue. I think "Vendor of Last Resort" is probably a good place to pigeon hole them.
