I remember seeing several posts that talk about using a fuel injection setup from a Jeep Cherokee and the local bone yard has several of them. What items do I need to upgrade my /6 to MPFI? Does the Cherokee intake or exhaust manifold fit on the /6? If not, how do I set up a throttle body intake? How do you mount the crank and cam position sensors?

Thats a loaded question... may want to check my thread in the slixers gallery detailing my install, have some pictures there too.

Does a jeep 6 manifold fit? No.

What do you need?
Fuel pump, regulator, and plumbing
Injectors
Computer
Harness and associated sensors
Throttle body and any adapters/brackets/etc

How do you mount cam and crank sensors? Theres no bolt on stuff for a /6, you'll have to get creative and make something yourself

How do you set up a throttle body? Well, you'll have to make your own adapter brakcet for what throttle body you choose (or if you use a clifford or offy manifold, and find a standard 2bbl/4bbl throttle body...) then make somethign to adapt your current linkage or use something generic like a lokar cable setup as I did.

Theres a fair amount of custom work to be done, this isn't a 350 v8 you can just buy an all in one kit for and bolt it on unfortunately. Note that the jeep fuel pump is probably in tank so either you need to adapt it to your slant car tank or strap a inline pump to your frame rail. Several options to set up plumbing too....

I use a megasquirt - there is no cam or crank sensor, just an rpm pickup I take from my MSD box. The new megasquirt 2 (or the MS-1 upgraded to Msns-e firmware) can be triggerd directly from the distributor, or crank sensor if you choose to go that route. Check out www.msefi.com or www.megasquirt.info for more on the megasquirt. Clifford sold me one of their manifolds with bung already drilled out for mpfi. Check out the articles section of this website - name slips my mind but a guy there has detailed install of his blower w/gm efi from junkyard parts

I'm working on a Megasquirt EFI installation too. It is a bit more work than some aftermarket turn-key package, but it's no more difficult than some adaptations of junkyard hardware.

I recall reading one example where somebody on another board did attempt to convert a slant six to EFI using some Jeep hardware. However, the only things he used were the injectors, throttle body, parts of the fuel rail (he'd cut it apart and welded in new sections), and maybe the fuel pump. He didn't even try to get the ECU running on a slant six.

I'm not sure I would try attaching a Jeep ECU to a slant six either. They often have very strange trigger mechanisms that you must stick on the crank pulley, in the distributor, or possibly off the end of the camshaft.

One of the useful things about Megasquirt is that it doesn't need a complex trigger unless you want to put one on for the fun of it. You can trigger it from any factory or aftermarket slant six distributor.

Next to getting the manifold machined if you can't get a Clifford piece, the biggest hang-up is the fuel system. If you are just cruising, you could run a single external electric fuel pump. I plan to autocross my Dart, though, and needed a way to prevent fuel slosh from interrupting the fuel delivery. I'm in the process of working out a system that uses two very different electric fuel pumps, a one way check valve, and an industrial fuel filter that doubles as a surge tank.

A TBI system may be a bit cheaper and simpler. If you have a Clifford manifold, you cut a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate into an adapter for almost any TBI you can imagine. Megasquirt can control a TBI quite easily. I'd probably have saved around $750 from my project if I'd gone with one instead of MPFI.

I looked at your thread Pierre and that looks great. What vehicle did the throttle body come from? Do you use an in tank fuel pump or is it externally mounted? Did you have any issues getting the Jeep computer to do what you wanted? What about an O2 sensor? What did the Clifford intake cost? Is that a set of Clifford headers you have? Sorry to ask so many questions but I want to be prepared before I go down this road.

I didn't use a jeep computer, I used a megasquirt.
I got an external pump I straped to the frame rail just by the rear right tire from www.apeusa.com (the blue regulator you see in the pics is from them too)
The clifford manifold cost me $289, he gave it to me for same price as their standard, undrilled ones
The fuel rail was clifford as well, $20
For o2 sensor I used an Innovate MOtorsports Wideband LC-1 controller ($150) and the corresponding wideband sensor ($50)
The 1 bbl throttle body came from an isuzu something (gm) not sure what. 3.2 engine I think - one of their v6's. I found it laying on the floor at a junkyard - only one I found with ported vaccum on it. Will eventually be going to ford EDIS setup controled by hte megasquirt as well so I can ditch the distributor all together. At that point I may get a different throttle body.
Yes, those are clifford shorty headers - but if I were to do it all over again I would ditch headers and go for dutra duals.
