I was almost drilling the holes to put my bottle next to the driver's seat
like Doc did on his Dacuda, but my local old school parts counter guy said
that now in California because of the fast and furious ricers, that they will
impound your car if they pull you over- even if you have an empty bottle.
Now if you put the bottle in the trunk, do you have to have a remote switch? If you are at the track,do you have to keep opening the trunk up
all the time to turn the valve, or can you just turn it on at the beginning of the day and leave it?

What is the difference if the bottle is next to the seat or in the trunk? If it is illegal to have nitrous it won't make any difference where the bottle is mounted. I have my bottle mounted in the "trunk" area in my Barracuda, because there is no room within reach of the driver seat. I leave my bottle turned on, if I will be returning to the staging lanes, right after a run. Otherwise I turn it off. One trick: Start the engine with the bottle turned off. Then open the bottle valve, if the rpm changes, you know you have a leaking solonoid, so do not leave the bottle on with the engine off, and repair/replace the bad solonoid ASAP.

I do not know of any law in CA or anywhere that allows the police to impound your car if you have a NOS bottle in it.

I don't like the idea of having a cop (or anyone else) looking at the bottle so I keep a large towel or old jacket in the car and cover it up.

And yes, I always turn-off the valve when you are not running the NOS system, especially if the engine is not running. A slow leak into the engine can cause a big explosion when you go to restart.

Aren't there remote openers on the market that'll allow you to turn the bottle on with a switch??

Here's what I decided to do- I don't plan on using the nitrous on
the street (much-ha ha), so I got an extra set of brackets.
One set is in the trunk, to carry the bottle to places like Vegas.
The other brackets are on the passenger side where the seat
should be (like Doc's) to race at t he track with, with a vent tube
provision. This is nice because you can manuallly turn the
valve on and off when you want and not have it on when you
don't want it on.
