I split this out from the "ignition question" thread. Quote: [
Ah, that's the problem, a "Haynes" manual. Those manuals are too "typical". They do not split years/engines, well enough. They were talking about the 2nd generation computers. I think the light you are refering to is the"service EGR" or "service Emission" light.
Charlie, I am pretty sure. My '87 was my first vehicle, and it and my 2000 Ram are the only two vehicles I have ever owned. ![]() I remember when I first read about obtaining trouble codes (from a Haynes manual of all places ![]() -S/6 |

No, the 'eng maint' light was seperate animal. I discovered that lovely little item about 1 week after the engine was first rebuilt, and reset the button and replaced the 9 volt battery. I remember cycling the ignition and having codes flashed at me, I just do not remember which light in the cluster it was. It was nearly 10 years ago. ![]() |

that is correct for the egr service reminder. It is timed to illuminate every 50,000 miles.

I knoe it was not computer codes on a "lean burn" vehicle. I will look into this further

I have a friend with access to many different years of FSM's looking into this as well. When I hear something back I will let you know. From what he has told me, calling a Spark Control Computer "Lean Burn" is somewhat of a misnomer, as they are slightly different animals. ![]() |
