Ok, after a good engine wash and oil change I noticed that my rocker arms got a *chack,chack* like sound when cold engine, that was nomal before the wash and oil change, but now that sound is still there when engine is at normal temp!!

How normal is this?, my rockers will need to adjust?

I don't think it has anything to do with your oil chagne and wash, you probably were just paying closer attention to it once your ear was under the hood.

Do an adjustment and make sure your screws aren't excessively loose as your adjustment won't last long that way.

You hear the noise more when cold because as the engine heats up and metals expand, tolerances shrink to take up the slack.

Ok, any advice for adjusment?

go .018 on intake and .028 on exhaust (I think?) coud be other way around can't find my spec sheets.

The correct factory specs are .010 intake and .020 exhaust.

OK, what if you have hydrolic lifters? My truck only makes a "clackety clack" noise when I really try to accelerate. I'm a little afraid to mess with it at the moment as it is slightly more reliable than my 94 Honda at the moment.

Are you sure it is your lifters making that sound? Cou be detonation or bottom end trouble.

If it is your lifters you can either replace them or take them apart and clean them individually. Varnish tends to gum these things up over the years, epecially if the oil change intervals are not followed closely. Could be a bent pushrod too. Does the sound show up when you first crank the truck up on a cold morning or only during acceleration?

If you pull the lifters to clean them it is critical that you get each of them back in the same hole from which it came. Otherwise, you're likely to be replacing all of them as well as the cam.

Ok, I know my lifters are not hydraulic, they are stock (71 engine) also tomorrow I will try to adjust the rockers, this day I was unnable to get the car out of parking lot.
