What are you starting off with? What kind of carburation do you have? Any other mods already done to the engine?

How big of a boat?

Whoops, let's not let this thread drift off topic before it can even get started. We can discuss "cudies" (...?) over in the social forum, if we must.

Carvel, a lot of the automotive-type upgrades for the slant-6 are also applicable to a marine engine, with the caveat that marine applications require consideration for the marine operating environment. A 2bbl carburetor would likely help quite a bit, as would an electronic ignition system with an application-matched advance curve. But, with that 2bbl swap, you'd need to find an air cleaner suitable for the particular type of marine installation you've got, and you'd want to pick your carburetor carefully. The pictures you've mentioned will be a great help, for they will allow us to see what you've got now in terms of air cleaner, carb and other ancillaries.

It's more complicated than just finding a correct air cleaner. Marine carbs are significantly different in many respects, particularly the vent and the throttle shaft bushings (so that there is no chance of fuel leakage). Unless you can find an OEM marine BBD (doubtful, it would seem to me), I think you're best bet would be to grab one of the smaller Holley 2300 marine carbs and either run an adapter plate or a manifold w/ the correct flange pattern.
