| Post subject: | Carb Spacer for BBD |
Is there a carb spacer made for the BBD? How much good does one do? I'd like to improve my mileage and performance a little. Currently running a super six set up w/ a 727 in a D100. Also have Chrysler electronic ignition, two and a quarter inch exhaust. Thanks, Joe |

I have never seen one specifically for a BBD, but you can find them for a Holley 2300 and then run an adapter to go from the BBD pattern to the 2300 pattern then back to the BBD pattern. Or you could sandwich two adapters. Or do like I did and make your own out of flat iron. There's lots of options, but nothing pre-made exactly to fit. |

hey, i was also wondering about the other part of his question, "how much good does it do?" i have also put on a super six recently and i thought that a spacer hurt mileage and performance? i bought a rebuild kit at napa and it came with a spacer, when i rebuild, should i put it on? thanks |

It came with a spacer? Are you sure it isn't the correct thicker carb base gasket? I have always heard that spacers have been proven to increase torque and gas mileage. |

How thick of a spacer are you after? You can stack up the insulated 3/8" thick carb base "gaskets" (which are actually spacers) to get whatever thickness you want... |

lol, yeah, its probably a gasket, i thought it was a spacer though, but what difference doe sit make? |

I traced out and measured a used gasket I had for my Carter BBD. I bought a sheet of delrin and had a machinist at work cut it out for me. I got the idea from argentina-slantsixer who did it with a delrin/zytel sandwich on his 1 barrel. I ended up taking mine off because it only treated the symptom of a problem I had, which was too much heat getting to the carb. Hindsight, a better design would have looked at the manifold and carb openings for more exact measurments. As for benefits? I couldn't tell you beyond heat shielding. |
