i read that the cranks are different the 170 was automatic,and the 225 is a three speed, i want to keep the auto matic... anyone know if it will be a straight swap or do i need to buy some parts? |

sorry it took so long to respond i gotsta go to the library too get online. the 170 is a 1966, and the 225 is 70 something, i read that i'll need to get a bushing, but am not sure if i need to change bell housings or anything else. I'd like to keep the original trans in the 66. |

Yep, you need the spacer bushing so the '66 torque converter is properly suppored and centered in the larger pilot hole of the later engine. Other than that and a little work to the exhaust down-pipe you'll be fine. Where are you located? I'm looking for a 170 core to rebuild. |

You'll need a 225 flexplate, spacer as joshie said. I just finshed doing a 77-225 auto into a 64 170 auto spot in a Valiant. I left the trans in the car. but many pull them togather. This site got me through it and all I had to fear was fear itself. Let me know if I can lend moral support. |
