They're no longer manufactured, so the first step in buying one...is finding one! What year/model are you working on?

Oh I was under the impression that I had seen a link that offered them. I remember it was one of yours dan but I must have read more into it than what was really said. Id like to get the HEI conversion started on an 85' van w/1945 and tracked down some parts on Ebay(vacuum advance electronic distributer, a couple of holley 1920s, and a carter BBS) I was wondering about the carter BBS, it says its for a 70-71 B & A bodies and trucks, would the linkage be suitable for the van?

Well...yeah! I had a few of them, new in box, that I was selling off. I think I still have a couple; I put the last '70s one on my '71 Dart a couple weeks ago. It doesn't necessarily have to stay there; send me a PM.

That Carter 4956s is a 1971 A/E-body 198/auto carburetor. It was never used on trucks or vans. Linkage should be suitable for your purpose. This carburetor will be missing some hookups (vacuum port suitable for control of EGR) and features (positive throttle return spring) that your '80s application is "looking for". The only one that's a big deal is the EGR vacuum hookup. Will you be running EGR? More importantly: What is the status of your truck's catalytic converter? Absent? Present? Staying?

Yes the EGR should be left connected (Ontario emissions) and the converter is present.

OK, then in that case, this carburetor wouldn't be a wise choice. There'd be no way to run the EGR (you need a venturi vacuum tap, which this carb doesn't have).

Questions:

1) You're in Ontario? Whereabouts?

2) Do you know for sure if this '85 originally had an Oxygen sensor?

Im in Kitchener. I have the black box on the firewall and a holley 1945 without feedback. There is a bung on the exhaust pipe below the manifold where an O2 would go, but this is probably a replaced system from original. I was looking over your HEI conversion page and was wondering since I have a new mopar cap (expensive) would the NAPA rotor fit under it? Also would the increased gap and autolite 985 or NGKs apply to this particular swap as well? Im running Autolites now (not 985) I suppose the first thing I should do is get the computer bypass done first.Ill start buying stuff next week :P
