I'm replacing the 4 wheel opening moldings on my 74 Dart Sport. After 33 years they look dull and have too many dents from doors opening into them. I've contacted Year One and they have reproduction moldings, however they need 10 to 12 weeks to order and deliver at a price of $322.00. Who else sells these moldings? I found a guy in New Hampshire, yet he wants $599.00. Who manufactures these wheel moldings? Thank for your help.

I finally received my wheel opening moldings from Layson's after bugging them for over six months. They arrived just after Christmas. They cost $345.00 with shipping included.

Glad to hear that you finally got them. Laysons and Year One are famous for making you wait on back orders. I just think its a shame that they charge so much for those repop parts. Now I understand the work it takes to get the parts made or whatever, but the mark up is what the killer is. I guess they think everybody out there is building a $40,000 show car.

The problem I had was that the overpriced "reproduction" parts sometimes didn't even fit or work properly. Window seals are a good example.

That is exactly what I am worried about. I took the new wheel moldings and matched them up against the old moldings. I can clearly tell that the screw holes are slightly off. I pointed this out to the guy repairing and painting the car and he feels that I may have to drill new holes in the wheel well before I install the new moldings. Great! I have already paid over four grand for paint and now I have to cut up the car to make the moldings fit. By the way the Dart has been at the paint shop since September. It's a good thing I have patience. My son is about to go ballistic waiting on his car. I know good work takes time. I think its time I went to the paint shop and did some of the work myself to hurry up this project. My son and I started this car in June 2005. How do you speed up the work without ticking off your body man?

I feel for ya brother. I bought my son's Dart Sport for his 2002 Christmas gift when he was a 14-year old 8th grader. We got the car on the road this past March 2006 when he is now an 18-year old H.S. senior. His was in the paint and body shop approximately four months, but that was only because the shop owner is a good friend and did the work 'tween jobs. We weren't in a big hurry at the time.

As far as hackin' off the body guy...
I don't know your relationship with him, but begging, pleading, or cash sometimes works wonders.
