These wheel cylinder pistons came out of the right rear 9" drum brake. One is broken (left) and both have a grove worn into it. What do you think caused this? Shoes way out of adjustment?

Probably just wore out. No tellin' how many times that piston has slid back and forth. The ones on my Duster were grooved and froze up when I got it. Previous owner said the brakes "sucked" I got some new ones from NAPA.
