You will probably find that the stock jetting/rods/springs will be about the best setup.

I have used different settings for mileage or power. Bigger secondary jets by 2-4 numerical sizes should make a bit more power. I have also leaned out the cruise section of the primaries by 1 step in rod size.

Best to get a strip kit and start playing, but if you leave it alone it will probably work very well too.

Lou

Or you can throw it away and get a 390 Holley and be done with it.  :D

My entire tuning on mine for the whole season has been 3 jet changes and a float adjustment. The last jet change was to put it back to stock. The float adjustment is because I raised the front of the car.

IMO, most of the carb tuning that gets done is basically worhtless, especially without any dyno or track time to back it up. "Seat of the pants" feel is very misleading.

Thanks Lou,

I have the strip kit and I have been testing with different set-ups.

Just seeing if anyone had the golden set-up.

I too have good luck with the Edlebrock stock. This is after I tried the Holley 390 and had three different excellent carb mechanics from Detroit work on the Holley, all telling me to pintch it, which I did. Dartboard

My engine builder ported head, shaved the head, decked the block, etc, etc, but found that the stock jets were what the engine liked best on his certified dyno. So I'm staying with the stock jets. This little beast has turned mid 15's with a faulty front trans. pump and 11" t.c. Tomorrow I get it from the shop with a rebuilt tranny, 10" t.c., and I hope it'll run like a scalded dog. I'll report back when I have time to test it.

Bagel have you ever wondered why no racing teams run Eledbrock Carbs. Im a Holly Man but i learned all about the carb so i can tune one. I doint have to fool with springs or metering rods. I guess defferent strokes for different folks. Mine Bagel has not changed for two years old well . I guess Redneck tuning is pretty good. Thanks Possum :D

My engine builder is recommending the Holley for my build. He say its "user freindly". Its also going to be a 670 CFM Street Advenger.

Look at the bright side Possum. If you need to change needles on an Edelweber, you go to the nearest tattoo shop and get some used pins. Badda bing-Badda boom.

That carb would be big on a stout v8 thats 100 cubic inches bigger. Id be careful of your builder if thats what he recommends.
If folks here can run 13s and 14s with much smaller carbs the question would be why your build needs such a big carb.
My car is pretty quick and tractible for a street car and could run nicely on just the primaries of a 670........
Dennis's 12 second slant runs a 390 Holley.

I think he'll be OK if he is gonna run a lot of cam, compression, converter, and gear. A really good flowing head will help too.

I have a 650 DP on mine now. The car did go 12:002@110 last year with the 390. It has gone 12:001@108 this year, but I am giving it a little less juice.

I am setting the juice up for an equal shot as last year for Monster Mopar. It's either gonna run an 11 or blow up. I have a spare motor, so I don't care which.
