This should be an easy one for the right person.
What is the original color for the slant six in a 61 Valiant ?
Mopar Performance says yellow, but I thought that was the industrial and truck color. Any help would be appreciated ..... V.

Red is correct for any 1961 Valiant except an Australian-market one, in which case silver is correct.

The "Many early 1960s slant-6s" BS in the Mopar Performance book is one of numerous sloppy errors in the MP catalogues and engine books regarding slant-6 engines.

Very, very close match to the original red in your '61 is International-Harvester Red farm equipment paint.

Chrysler Industrial Red from Duplicolor at many auto parts stores. I get it from AutoZone.

Hey guys...
I started this one a few days ago, and now I am going to muddy the water even more. Right after I sent the original question, I bought a 61 Valiant parts car, a 2dr sed. with a 170 - 3 speed. The car was very rusted but low mileage (30 K) and original. The paint is mostly gone from the engine, but there is enough left to tell that it was painted silver  from the factory.
My project 61 Valiant is red, and a silver engine would look sharp and appears to be a legit color.
Any opinions ????. Dan, ever seen one ? .... V.

P.S. ... Yes I saved the engine and trans.

How d'you know it was painted silver from the factory? You're looking at a forty-five-year-old engine...!

Paint the engine whatever color you want; it's your car.
