I have a 62 Valiant with a stock aluminum engine. After reading a post on using a ground wire to tie all electrical component to the negative side of the battery instead of using the engine as a ground I decided to have a go at it. After conpleting this I took a short trip and noticed the my amp gauge (stock) now showed a higher charge rate than before. Upon returning home I checked the battery and wiring and found nothing abnormal. The battery, alternator and voltage regulator are all less than 3 month old. Whats up?

Most likley nothing. You just gave the ampmeter circuit a better ground path to read thru. Ive been in the electrical and electronic busineess 36 years and I see things like this all the time.

Thanks for the reply Frank. After driving it today for awhile the amp gauge seems to be returning to normal range. I guess I got a little paranoiac my knowledge of the electrical system is limited. Thanks again
