I think my wife is surprising me with a trip to the show, but my Swinger's engine is out, so I'll be getting there in a <gasp> Honda Accord!

Gettin' there is better than not!

Look for the white 79 AMC SPirit and the guy with the l o n g hair..... that would be me!

Right now we are looking at close to 30 Nostalgia SUper Stockers.

The Nostalgia Muscle Car guys have been as quiet as the slant6 guys about going.

Fine with me..... I wanna win that class this year, not runnerup and win the championship this year!

Got mine back together today. 2 bent exhaust valves and a leaky intake valve....... this AMC 360 may just be in the 11.20's in Houston!!!

Aaron and I are planning to go, weather permitting. Although they have a slant six class scheduled for Saturday, we won't be racing. We're just going to watch and learn. Events are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but we will probably only be there Saturday, including the cruise down to Kemah Boardwalk for the evening classic car show.

Aaron and I are hoping to meet some of you slant six-driving Texians one of these days, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that the weather stays nice. It's about a five-hour drive for us, so we won't make the trip if it is raining.

Let me know if you're planning to go,
Jerry

 The Buzzin' One himself left me a message this morning he had crossed the river and was now in Texas. If you leave now you can still join us for the race Saturday. (I'll cause a diversion or something to stall for time....) :):) RICK

Got quick call from Mike last night. He went 10:21@128 Friday in T&T in crap air. Saturday rained out. No word on car count or anything.

Aaron and I took our chances and made the trip Saturday. Well worth it! :D
My brother lives in Spring, on the north edge of Houston, so we trailered Aaron's Dart Sport there the 3 hours from our house on Friday. Saturday morning, we woke up to a light drizzle and a rainy forcast. We drove the 1 hour to Baytown from Spring hoping for it to clear off. When we made the last turn into Houston Raceway Park, it started a steady rain.

We hung around all morning through off-and-on showers, and about mid-day it finally cleared off. The track crew was able to get it dried off, and they finally got in some T&T. Aaron and I got to watch our first drag racing. We shot videos of several passes and watched the "Buzzin' Half Dozen" post a 10.39 to smoke a guy running a 440-Six pack.

Around 5:30 pm, Aaron and I joined a few others on a cruise down to the Kemah Boardwalk on the bay. He got to park his Dart as part of a classic car display inside the Boardwalk's main entry courtyard. For anyone interested in pictures of the event, the promoter said he will be posting photos on their website and will offer CDs for sale with hundreds of images.

We had a great time and were glad we weatherd the storm for some lasting memories. Here is Aaron and his Dart alongside a Viper with the same paint color he chose for his car.

We got a chance to visit with Mr. Jeffrey ("Buzzin' Half Dozen") who came down from Nebraska. The only other slanters we met was a gentleman and his wife who brought an orange Duster, and Bob White was there with his son. We also talked with the guy (name escapes me now) who said he sponsored the slant category, but he was driving something else. We'll probably go back again next year for some more of the same. :D

Jerry

Glad you felt so, Jerry. My wife and I made it for a few hours Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, and I got to meet Mike Miller and Rick, and had a great time talking to Mr. Jeffrey, but other than that, the same crappy slant representation I'm used to in Texas. Guess it's something about the part of the country. I never see more than a couple of slant cars at any show around here.

I'll concede I'm something of a hypocrite, as my slant developed a "knock" about two months ago that has it disassembled for a rebuild as we speak, so I was there in my wife's Accord.

I'm sorry I missed seeing the "Dartster" — I followed its progress here at .org, and would've liked to have met you and your son.

For what it's worth, I have every intention of driving the Swinger down next year and letting her get beat up by the other slants on the track, if only to support the class. Although, judging by this year's turnout, I'm skeptical as to whether there will even be a class.

Mike, Rick — a pleasure meeting you both.

We only had 2 cars come down to run the Slant 6 class so the promoters gave them the option to run in Pro or Sportsman. We had a light turnout in Nostalgia Muscle Car and the payout was dropped considerably so we rolled my portion of the sponsorship into that. I went out one round too early to get a part of that one!!!

I didn't get much time to get out and do some looking around. When the racing starts I am always busy getting the ladders set up for NSS and NMC so between rounds gets crazy. If I am still in, I have to cool my car down AND do the other stuff!

With only two cars there last year and two this year racing, I doubt there will be another chance unless at least 16 people will make the commitment to be there far enough in advance to secure a class sponsor.

It was nice meeting some of the folks from the message boards (yes even 74 Dart Sport :D ) That is one nice looking car!!!

Even though me and Dago didn't fair to well in the racing yesterday, we had a lot of fun, met a lot of great people and even going out in the semi's (sounds better than second round) I managed to win the Texas Outsiders point championship.

Let's see how thing go from here!!!

I never expected to see the "Buzzin Half Dozen" here in Texas, but WOW what a treat. Mike Jeffery was a pleasure to meet and talk Slants with. Aaron and Jerry from Troy brought out an awesome Dartster. First class wokmanship, loving attention to every detail on the rebuild. See you next year! We will be bringing the Duster next year!

I sure wish there would have been more Slants, but the weather didn't cooperate (I really didn't expect it to rain at all, 40% was all that was forecast).

Jerry, email me and I will send you the re-curve data for the distro.

I didn't catch up with Dago Red or Mike Miller, but I did look over some of the cars the Fort Worth Group brought with them. I was especially interested in a 360 Green Duster they brought with them.

OK.... time for a little self promotion here....

That Dart was a product of my shop. I built the 408 stroker, trans and installed the subframe connectors and ladder bars. I also replaced his front floor pans and tried to get him to let me put a roll bar in it while the interior was out of it. He didn't figure it would be that fast.

He was selected for the Mopar Muscle Magazine shootout and won!!! You think I wasn't happy about that. What made me even happier was that he ran an 11.41 in the process. That car weighs a lot too. It is all steel, heavy bumpers and all. The only thing missing is the A/C compressor.

We had a blast at the race and from what the promoters told me earlier today, the nostalgia cars we a big hit...... I am sure we will be back next year.

I wish I had gotten the time to track down the Buzzin' Half Dozen car but I was swamped with the stuff I had to do with our cars. The only races I even got to watch were the ones I was behind in the staging lanes and the final few cars from the tower.
