Found my water pump leaking coolant out of the weep hole today. I'd like not to change the pump and wait until the new motor is back from the machine shop. I plan to put maybe another 150 miles on this motor in the next 2 months. I was told to filler up and leave the rad. cap loose and it sould be fine as long as I fill it before any small trips. A small trip would be about 20 miles one way. Do you think it will be fine under these circumstances?

Relieveing the pressure by running the cap 1/4 turn loose can help it get by. Will it last? Yes as long as you dont let it run out of water/coolant. You just have to try it and see how it holds water and keep up with it and add when it needs water. But the pump could be bad enough that it still leaks just as bad with the cap loose, you just have to try & see.

But why not just put a new pump on, it can be swaped to the new engine.

To change the pump I need to remove the radator and A/C.

I just replaced mine 2 days ago. The coolant would leak out as soon as it hit the water pump. I still had an almost new one from my old engine, I actually found an auto parts store(NAPA) that had the gasket instock.
Why would you have to remove the radiator?

~sigh~ You wont have to remove the AC condensor....just remove the rad...(10 mins max) and replace the pump..(less than $100 no matter what kind of problems show up)

....or park the car

your right about the A/C condenser, but the A/C compressor is bolted to the water pump. Yes this job can be done in about 2 hours. I just feel like bitching. Got brake problems on my mind. This should be the end of this thread.
