I have an 85 d-150 with a rebuilt 77 carter bbd that has been running flawlessly for the past year. While driving the other day the engine sputtered and died while pulling away from a stop sign. She then died two more times as soon as I put a load on the engine. She idles OK with a vacuum steady at 18 inches. I replaced the fuel filter and also added dry gas to the tank. But there was no improvement. I also sprayed out the carb and adjusted the mixture with no change. Today I rotated the distuibutor counter clockwise about 5 degrees and I seem to good power at WOT.

Could there be a problem with Spark Control computor advancing the timing? Or does anyone have any other suggestions.

I'm out of ideas. Any help is appreaciated

Carb may have trash in it that got by the filter. My '84 D100 had so much junk in the tank it would plug the carb and a new filter within a month. It seemed to run at higher speeds OK, my problems were at idle(if it would) and low speed. I had to drop and clean the tank. I then used a new plastic see thru filter to keep an eye on it, looks good so far. Next oil change I'll go back to a steel cased filter.
