Have always liked the old Dodge Dart's. My grandparents had a 69 dart I drove as a kid, well my son has been asking for a car, and his tastes run to older funky stuff, so I just acquired a 1963 Dart 270, 4 door, with of course the 225 Slant six. Haven't had time to do much with it, the body is very good for a 43 year old car, only a couple of small dents and very minimal rust. The paint is original and needs to be dealt with soon, but all the trim and script is still there. The vehicle shows 19K miles, I'm assume it is at least 219K if not 3, 4 or 5. I basically have no information on it, other than it was a SF bay area car that's been in Berkely, Santa Cruz and San Jose all it's life. The engine seems to run well, doesn't smoke or burn oil. It's three on the tree, with a junk yard tranny that shifts well. The previous owner put 14 in rims on the rear, with 13 inch rims on the front. Two of the 13 inch rims are bad, so I need to pick up a couple at the wreckers. One thing I did notice, the PCV valve is non-existent, just a rubber tuber comming out of the valve cover gromet.

Any information on what I should be looking for maintenence wise would be greatly appreciated. Also what are the tune-up specs for that engine?

Welcome onto the board. Your first step should be to buy the three books described in this post. You'll want to restore the PCV system to its correct configuration. Ask your questions in the relevant forums on here -- try to split them up so all the questions of similar topic are in their own post -- and we'll help get you moving forward.

great find
you can see in my tag is my 63 dart :)
with a 225 it must fly, my 170 feels quick for what it is

I dont have 63 specs, but 64 should be the same
64 specs:
plug gap 0.035
points gap 0.020
dwell angle 40-45 deg
firing order 153624
this is from a MOTOR manual printed in 1976
I used 64 specs on my 63 with a 170 and it worked fine

things I strongly suggest upgrading:
disk brake upgrade
alternator output wire where it pass through the firewall
check your driveshaft boot in the front

and a word of caution, taillight lenses and headlight trim rings are hard to find and very expensive when you do. though I was able to make a taillight lens from a trailer light lense ...... not "right" but it is better then tape or getting pulled over.

good luck,
tophat

Thanks for the tips, when I opened the trunk, lo and behold, there was the complete service manual for the vehicle, as well as a newly re-cored radiator!, So there's a start, will have to locate those other books, thanks again!

Interesting; do the rear wheels still have the small bolt pattern? 4" between opposite studs = small BP, 4.5" = large. It's unlikely but possible that a rear end swap was done and a later axle with the LBP was installed.
