I'm hoping someone with a parts reference could help me out. I picked up 2bbl Carter carb that's supposed to be for a super six. The number cast on the carb is 0-2343. The ID tag's top line is "8137S" and the bottom line is "3227 819". I picked it up to rebuild in the hopes that still having an ID tag meant it was original and a good one to rebuild. The other carb I have has no tag and is pretty badly corroded.

Anyone have a good reference (book, web, etc) for tuning on the Carter? I'm quite good with Holley's, but I'm unfamiliar with the Carter's internals, and would like to learn something new. :)

I'm assuming that I'll need to do some tweaking on the carburetor to get things right. The combo I'm putting together will be 9:1 225, mild port/polish job, comp 252H cam, dual exhaust, 904, 2.90 SG. It'd be nice if I could just rebuild the carb and stick it on, but I expect that the jetting will need to be richened up, among other things possibly.

Most carb kits come with the instructions (although some brands leave much to be desired in pictures), factory manuals have some good information too.

I have run a stock Super Six carter BBD with a 9.2:1 CR with the comp cam 252 with a large single pipe, mildly ported head, stock valves and it worked just fine with my duster with either rear ratio of 2.94 or 3.55...I ended up swapping out to a Holley 4V and hyperpak for fun since the Carter tended to "run out" of breath at about 80-90 mph and under hard acceleration. But, I can't complain too badly as it was a good first step for engine break in, and daily driving until I knew what I wanted to do with my mill...

"8137S"

that should be a Carter BBD for a Super Six and Auto Tranny equipped Volare/Diplomat/Etc...from about 1978

good luck,

Thanks for the lookup and tips. Sounds like I'll just give the carb a rebuild and stick it on and see what happens; I'll put off worrying about changing metering until it's obvious there's a problem.
