ok i have two questions. the 1st is i was wandering why my engine diesels after shutting it off. it doesnt do it all the time, just every once in a while, and sometimes worse then otheres. would it be my timing or valve job needed? i am getting both done soon. it has a brand new carb on it, and properly adjusted. also any idea why i keep gettin a dead battery? and the cause why its so hard to jump? i have put 3 alternators on my car this past year. *2006* and i went out 3 days ago to crank it and nothing. i was thinkin maybe wiring? but if that was the case then why such long intervals of it dieing? and why would it be so hard to jump? it has a fairly new die hard. less then a year old. before that it had a massivaly huge interstate, which i replaced the 1st time this happend since it was the battery that was in it when i got the car. and the funny thing is is that it has never died on me while driving, except at the end of december 05 when the origanal alternator went out. i am just completely lost. maybe the vlotage regulator is faulty or has a short? any help would be greatly appricaited. thanks!

Concerning Your Electric Problems;

Overrun could be from a hot carb. Have you checked for vacuum leaks? That might make it run leaner and hotter than it should.

thanks guys. i found the cause of my trouble on the electrical. crappy postive cable. i went out not too long after i posted this, took the positve cable off, and put it back on. fired right over. and yes i do belive i have a manifold leak. i think thats it though cause when i replaced my carb i naturaly redid all my vaccum lines. i do have a feelin that my timin is off, also i think it would help my car overall once i replace that lean burn nonsence. with that and when i put a 4bbl intake *new gasket, no more leaks! :D * hopefuly that will fix it

What carb did you put on it? What kind of manifold do you have? It may be a simple gasket issue. Spray some carb cleaner around the base of the carb and along the intake runners at the head. If the engine idles up, you know where your leak is. I had the same problem, but the gasket on the #5 runner had fallen away. You could hear it sucking air easily with the hood up. I had the screws on my BBD turned out almost five full turns to get it close to right before I could work on it.

its just the stock holley 1bbl replacement. 1945 i belive. non lean burn. i know i need a new gasket. thing is is wheather i should go through all the trouble to replace it, or just wait to i put the 4bbl intake and carb on. thats what im doin about my oil leak. i got a slight leak from my valve cover. but when i get a valve job done, the deck milled and the oversized valves in, thats when i will replace it. til then i just keep an eye on it. i go thru about a quart between every oil change. i will also either be puttin on a chrome or brushed aluminum clifford vavle cover. still not too sure. probably the aluminum. depends on what air cleaner i deside to go with. a chrome holley or the aluminum mopar performane...
