I am currently shopping for a 4 bbl for my 73 Swinger Slant with auto trans (904). One thing I keep seeing is "Ford kickdown lever" on some of them.

What is the difference between a Ford kickdown and Mopar? Is this something I should have on the carb I buy, or would it make things more difficult to attach what ever I am going to use for my auto trans kickdown. I've read about the Lokar kickdown on this site, which seems to be the kickdown method of choice for the 4 bbl crowd here.

Is there a 4 bbl carb that can use the Super Six kickdown rod?

I never see any Mopar or GM kickdown advertised on the carbs. Is the Ford thing pretty special?

I think it refers to the shape of the lever on the carb. I believe the holly 8007 I bought from summit was advertised as ford kickdown. I used a lokar kickdown setup though. Either way with a 4bbl you will have to play with cables/brackets if you want to mate original kickdown setup to it. Try searching kickdown I believe there are people that have posted pictures about adapting original throttle and kickdown cables to 4bbl's

Is there any advantage to having a carb with the Ford Kickdown when using the Lokar cable?

I don't know what the other styles look like to compare, but I can tell you with the lokar bracket, lokar cables, clifford 4bbl manifold & adapter, hooking up the holley 4bbl was pretty straight forward.

The ford kickdown is that additional lever that you see next to the regular throttle lever on your carb(depending on model, those Holley's that are Ford ready just have no extra lever)...Ford has a different way that they actuate the tranny kickdown than mopar...just hook the Lokar to the main lever and it's all good...

Thanks! Carbs with the Ford Kickdown cost more, so if there is no advantage to having it, no reason to pay the extra.
