3 Speed Shifter

PO put a floor shifter in the truck.. Got it all lined up and is shifting.

But it seems to have A Spring or something pushing the stick to the Right.

Which seems to me would have the default (IE if you push strait forward or strait back it will go into 3rd or reverse.. ) is this normal? (Would think it would default to center or to the Left for 1st and 2nd.) If not what do you think the culprit is?

Suspect Shifter was "Borrowed" from another Slant powered CAR at some point..

The hole in the Floor is definitely not factory..

Thanks,

-Scott

Sounds like a aftermarket shifter to me....all Sweptline truck 3 speeds I have seen were column shifts.

They have a spring load toward 2/3 gear

So it is normal to have a spring load toward 2nd/3rd?

Thats what i needed to know..

FYI is really looks like a Hurst type setup but the Chrome Shifting arm does not indicate that to be the case.. Looks like the Hurst "Indy" if i recall from the pictures i've seen of the Hurst stuff...

I know Hurst was the OEM on some of the Slant/three speed cars..

But all this is derived mostly from stuff i found on this board.

There is no question the truck was a "Three on the tree" from the factory i can see near the wheel where the old shift was busted off.. Probably during Military service.. Saw on the dealers paper work this truck has been transferd many times since the.. One owner listed as "Goodwill industries" so was donated at some point.

Thanks,

-Scott

Spring loaded to 2-3 is correct. Should have to pull it toward driver (against spring) and pull back for 1st. Then pust forward and the spring will move the shifter to the right as you push to get 2 nd, then pull straight back for 3rd. Reverse is pull shiftr toward driver (against spring) and push forward.

Howdy slanted..

I won't ever need the after maket non Hurst 3 speed floor shifter and linkage I had on my truck A745. You want it...for postage? Worked fine, just the handle is a tad short, as in the ball is about at the bench seat level and I like mine nearer my elbow. I supported it with a angle iron frame attached to the floorboard and the vehicle frame because of rotten floor, til I put in new floor pans. PM me if ya want it,
