I just decided to investigate what the internet had on slants; and found this site. Nice going. A little bio here: my family has been racing Mopars since 1963, although we quit cold with the Mopar boycott of pro stock in the seventies. I started racing motorcycles, ending a few years ago with a turbo funny bike (7.00 @ 192 mph). Years ago I visited the Mopar nats and met "Uncle Meryl" and ended up buying a car he had for sale under the vision of having something my wife could play with.
Well, the motor has been done and sitting in the corner of my shop for about 16 years; I wanted to build the first 11 second /6 car, but Mark Goodman was already hot on that project, and I lost interest after he did it. Well, I've started a business, moved the business from Oklahoma to Kentucky; all manner of junk in between; and now I plan to get the /6 back on track. I just don't know for sure yet if I'm going to bring it out in the "Six Shooter" car I bought from Mr. Bruner, or in a rear engined roadster like the old 'Speed Sport" car of the early sixties. My inclination is the later, as it will be faster; and I'm worried that an 11 or 12 second car might not be enough to trip my trigger after running 7 flat on a bike. I mean, we have to get SOME adrenaline going, you know!
Anyway, my car and motor are both still back in Tulsa, and I'm looking for some backyard jewel to just come out and play at the Chrysler Classic at Beech Bend next month; anyone got a spare car I could rent?

Yes, I believe too that a Slant car won't be as thrilling as a F/B.

The funny bike was a thrill, that's for sure. But I'm never gong to get on anything like that again. I figure with a rear engined roadster, I could put an RPM limiting chip in the tach and let some of my shop guys play with it when I'm busy.
The /6 guys all seem to have good fun while still seriously racing, and I like that.

Welcome and get something screwed together ASAP, the racing season is about to start!

Care to share a little about the bike? I have raced street bikes for years. The view from a bike seat is completely different than being surrounded by a car.

The bike was a turbo, nitrous Kawasaki with an Orient Express three speed automatic. It ran a 10.5 tire, 550 RWHP. It ran 7.00@ 192 with this fat boy on it.
It was pretty quick for its day, but guys like Elmer and Spiderman were already in the 6's.
It would pick the front wheel up and rock onto the bar right off the line, and not set the wheel back on the ground till you shut off at the finish line!
I could see the front wheel just stopped right there as the brake caliper had enough drag to hold it. When you'd shut off, it'd puff smoke just like an airliner touching down! The scarriest part of the run was when you shut off. Think about it, the bike's back hard on the 'bar, and you know how the slicks grow on a fuel car or funny car? These were the same way; so it'd go from trying to suck you off the back of the bike the whole trip, then you shut off and the tire stops being fed all that centripital momentum, and it tries to go back to its size when its at rest, and the bike goes to hard on the little front slick, and the back bouncing like its on a pogo stick. At this time, the bike, still going about 180, is trying to pitch you over the handlebars, undoubtably so it can finish the job of trying to kill you by running over you. It was the most fun I've ever had, and I'm also a pretty good aerobatic pilot (real airplanes, not R/C). But that was then, this is now. As much as I wanted that big "200", I had fun with it, and it was as reliable as could be. All season, we'd change oil, plugs, and clutches. That was it. If I had put more boost in it, it'd have gone faster. It would also have started breaking things, and I don't like working on them.
My wife used to give me grief about that all the time, "I don't know why you do this, you don't like working on it". I'd tell her, honey, I like to shoot, too; but I don't want to build the friggin' gun!

On the call Mr. Bruner thing, I love him. He's a great guy. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for paying as much as I did for the car I bought from him so many years ago, because he's pretty proud of his stuff. I don't have a problem with that. What's it worth? I dunno, what'll someone give you for it. But I don't want to spend much for a junker to come out and play at this first event, and turn right around with my chassis guy and start spending real money on this rear engined car we are going to build this season.

I do need Mr.G's number though, I'd like to get some info on a good set of mixers.
I hired a guy over here like Daniel, except he's not really huge, doesn't have a plumbers butt that goes clear between his shoulder blades; and he actually does what I want, not re-inventing the wheel with each project.
He's from Yonkers, N.Y. though, so I dunno; that might zero things out!!
Hey, we'll be back in town in a week or two to pick up my /6 and Rick's D-50; I've already got a spot in my guys shop so we can start to drop the 360 in it. Bill's Scamp is moving along real well, We've go t a brand new quarter on it, new trunk extension, under hood is all finished. I'll try to get you around to see if before we haul it back here.
So...you know anybody with a beater /6 I could get here before the Classic next month? Even a truck would be fine.

Thanks for the rundown on the bike. I used to run Prostar on occasion and always thought the Fuel and F/B riders clanked when they walked by.

:tsk: No more trades. Got all the bills paid. Am on a mission and that is to see this fuel injected fed slant 6 completed. Good to hear you are doing well.

That's good to hear. I know you were trying to overcome your trading addiction. So how is the chassis coming along? I have no doubt Mark'll have a bullet ready when the time comes. What do you anticipate as a completion date for the car? Fuel injection is the way I want to go on this first motor; using my Clifford side draft intake. I still think the thing to do for these /6's is a billet cross flow head. I'll learn more as we move forward with this toy and if I still think it's the way to go to get to the next level of performance, I might build a few. That's a ways down the road though.
I just passed an long, early Dodge truck like you had; on I-65 today it was Hemi orange, a little low, hauling a '73 Cuda drag car on it. Wish you were here to see it.
So...why don't you pop over for the Chrysler Classic? All you gotta do is pay for gas, you can stay with us; we'll feed you too.
