I just got the volare & am going to change all fluids so I know exactly where im starting from...
Is anybody using a synthetic in the rear diff? Im going to make the switch in the motor but then got thinking about the rest...

The synthetic rear end oil works fine, has a wider viscosity range. I find that if you have a little gear noise, it may be a bit louder with the thinner oil. (hot) The synthetic stuff is expensive, about 3X more around here.

I'm running synthetic in our dart's 7.25 and our chevy's 12bolt. It has been great so far. While synthetics take the heat very well, they are also nice to have if your cars sees real cold weather. Even in moderate climates it flows cold and you don't have all that drag like you would with conventional oil before warmup. This is something to thing about for a drag car as well. No need to warm up the rear end oil for best performance. With the 7.25, a quart does it so it is not too expensive.

also I use about 1/4 of a bottle of the limited slip additive to keep the temp down

I know, it's a little off topic but this comment picqued my interest. A lot of the poor fuel economy on my Dakota is due to the 4X4 drivetrain so I'm thinking if there is that much less drag I could put the synthetic in the front and rear differentials and the transfer case and maybe pick up a point or two in the MPG performance.
