I've had it with the drums, next big project is the disc brake conversion.
I found varying opinions online as to what can be used, from what body style/year, plus I had little luck with the search on this site. Can someone refer me to a more definitive article or post about A-body disc brake conversions?
Thanks!

It's a bit cryptic and you'll need to fill in some details but here's an overview:

There are many sources for brake upgrade information. Keep searching this forum and the web. You'll find different approaches, varying levels of detail, and some questionable advice. Have fun!

A few sites/sources:

Raso

Warped

Mopar Action

AR Engineering

Performance Handling for Classic Mopars by Tom Condran
(Sorry, I can't find a link right now)

Adkins

My two bits:
1. Read a lot, think more. Ask questions!
2. Rebuild the suspension and upgrade the tires/wheelswhile you're at it.
3. It's worth it.

it is the questionable advice I am worried about slant valiant... dakight I actually have that page bookmarked- it is this that I question:
"Spindles from 73-up A,B,E,F,J,M,R chassis disk brake car.
Note - the B,F,J,M,R spindle does have differences..."
Can I really use all those spindles? According to many other resources, what I need to find is an 73-76 A body donor car, and my local salvage yards haven't been forthcoming with that.

It depends on who you talk to. A few people insist that it will screw up your Ackerman steering ( toe-out on turns ) but the results that I've seen indicates, and most people say, that the differences are small and not really harmful. But, that's where you'll have to do your own reasearch and draw your own conclusions. I happened to get a killer deal on an A-body setup so I don't have to worry about it but personally I would go for it if that were my only alternative.

I had a problem finding the parts here, too. Check the "Parts for sale" sections of this and other Mopar boards. They show up on craigslist and ebay as well, but don't get caught up in a bidding war. If you find a parts car, make sure you get all the goodies from it you can. Patience is a virtue.

You might try Texas Acres in Killeen, TX, but they're proud of the parts I've priced there. And beware of the annoying MIDI version of "The Yellow Rose of Texas" on their website.

I wound up with '74 Duster UCA's and knuckles with my original ('64 Valiant) LCA's and Volare calipers. Rotors and bearings were new.

volares use the same calipers and rotors as 73 up disc equipped A bodies. only diff is 76-9 vs 80 (also newer Diplomats, etc) position of where flexible rubber line enters caliper body.

Yeah, there are a few people going round loudly insisting it can't be done, won't work, it'll screw up your car, etc. if you use other than A-body parts.

Then there are the people going round quietly and successfully doing it without any problems.

Careful with Condran's book, BTW, it's full of errors.

i have another question about the spindles, is there a difference in the steering linkage with a slant six vs a v8? or is the system all the same?

I used the ssbc disk brake conversion kit. (stainless steel brake corporation). You need to have 10" drum brake spindles and it is a small bolt pattern rotor. I had difficulty getting stock 14" sbp wheels to clear the calipers, but other than that I love the stopping.

I just made the swap to the SBP Kelsey Hayes' thanks to Dakight. no clearance problems and no steering problems.

linkages will not effect your braking system--
they roughly break down 62-66, 67 -72, 73-76.

What is commonly a linkage issue is--- placing a v-8 in a 62 -66 a body-- if the center link is a non- dropped unit oil pan clearance becomes a problem.

do a search it has been discussed,Lawrence
