But will this tell me if the axle and/or gearing I've got (8 1/4" w/ SG 3.55) came from the factory?

E24: 225 1-barrel 6-Cylinder engine
D34: 904 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission
V: Plymouth Valiant / Duster
L: Low trim level/price class
29: 2 Door Sports Hardtop (=Duster)
C: 225 CID 105HP(net) 6-cylinder engine with one 1bbl carb
4: 1974 model year
G: Build plant - St. Louis, MO, USA
243740: Sequence Number
KJ6: Paint Code: Avocado Gold Poly (=Metallic), PPG #2632
A: "A" class trim
1: Cloth and vinyl bench seat
X9: Black (interior colour)
000: Upper door frame: full door panel
531: Build date: 5 / 31 / 1974
K34738: Vehicle Order Number
KJ6: Roof colour: Avocado Gold Poly (=Metallic), PPG #2632
U: Built to US market specifications
B41: Front disc brakes
C73: Fold-down rear seatback ("Space Duster" option...cool!)
F18: 65 Amp heavy duty alternator
G52: Unknown, something to do with mirrors or possibly glass. What kind of sideview mirror(s) does the car have? Has it got a backglass defogger?
J42: Delete front licence plate mount
J52: Inside hood release
R11: Radio, Musicmaster AM
Y39: Ordered vehicle
END: End of codes.

Now, there's no axle-related code here. No D56 for 3.55 ratio, no D82 for 8¼" rear axle, no D91 for Sure-Grip. This leads me to believe the car left the factory with the standard 7¼" open 2.76 rear axle. I could be wrong on this; the build sheet would go into some detail on the matter.

That Y39 "Ordered vehicle" code usually just means the vehicle was ordered by the initial buyer, rather than just being purchased off a dealer's lot having been made on spec by Chrysler.

Dan, you never cease to amaze me with the Mopar knowledge you've acquired over the years. If I'm ever up your direction, I'll have to stop by and treat you to a bottle of quality beer (ever heard of Arrogant Bastard?).

Aye, and a VERY good one. My favorite. I even had a vinyl decal custom cut of the gargoyle on the bottle to put on the Duster when it's all fixed up nice

Looking at the info you posted Dan, and I saw you mentioned Space Duster when referring to the fold down rear seat. Was that an uncommon option or part of an option package of some sort?

I wish I could get my hands on the build sheet for it, but the PO replaced the (completely shot) front bench with a bench out of a later model Dart.

Have you checked under the rear seat or inside the rear seat back ???

Not yet. I've still got a few nitnoid things to finish up before I start to tackle the interior.
