The specs for my 64 call for

Hypoid Lubricant

or

Multi-Purpose Lubricant

Is that equivalent to GL-4 or GL-5?

When did the GL-4 and GL-5 specs come out?

If it's GL-4, any harm in using GL-5? (I have some leftover GL-5 quarts)

GL 5 is fine, so is GL 6. I like to run a synthetic 80-90wt since they meet the viscosity spec but flow much better cold and have less drag when hot too. Every bit helps when you have a small engine. Cost is not such an issue since it does not get changed very often.
