I was adjusting the metering rods and now they get stuck in the up position. Here is the up:

and the down:

Now the problem with the down is that the "levers" seen here:

pinch the "fins" on the mechanism that holds the metering rods:

If I adjust the "levers" high enough that they don't pinch, then the rods lift too high and wont seat back down by themselves. I have to wiggle them around to drop them down again.

help

I know how to adjust the rods on a TQ. I didn't know there was an adjustment on the tin top BBD or the older style BBD's.

Can you explain this better?

I just picked up a 77 318 BBD off a 1 ton Maxivian.

Not sure but could it be binding up on the bowl vent linkage? I know I had a booger of a time getting the two meshed back together so both of them worked right. Cant remember specifics but seems it was the same trouble your having that I was having. Trouble with the metering rods working freely and then I noticed it was getting hung up on the bowl vent linkage after I had pulled the rods out at rebuild time and like you was trying to set them back down in and set them back up. It was a tin top Super Six BBD.

Only the "tin top" BBDs have adjustable metering rods, the older BBD have the rods hung from fixed position "tangs" attached to the step-up piston.
