And it's FAR quieter than it was before. It feels so great to punch the gas and not hear "BWWWWWAAAAPPPPP!" from exhaust leacking out through the manifold gasket. Overall it went pretty smoothly (if time consuming for me, but I flushed my cooling system and replaced all my hoses and thermostat at the same time); no broken studs, no damaged stud hole threads, no warpage o nthe surface of the manifolds (though the exhaust is warped up a bit towards the front. Contact with the head is still good though). My only problem was dropping a bunch of triangular washers (and a brass nut) down the downpipe of the exhaust while trying to get a washer on the stud underneath the choke stove. Didn't even have to pull the exhaust to get 'em out though. Got a shop vac, cleaned it out, fired it up, stuck the hose against the flange and viola, got all the washers and the nut right out. No fuss, no hassle with pulling the exhaust.

Anyhoo, I love these gaskets! Now to adjust the valves and see how quiet my engine can really get...

glad to hear its back together, i found a post talking about the prices for the aussie head gasket, and the gasket between the manifolds, how much did the manifold one run with shipping? ill have to remember the shop vac trick if i ever do that, which knowing me, is quite possible...

Depends on the Assie/US exchange rate-
If I recall it was $35ad (both gaskets) including shipping,
something like around $23usd at the time
I ordered.

I ordered both gaskets together last month and it cost me $37 USD total, which included shipping. Took about a week and a half to be delivered too.

I still hear a very slight leak when I romp on the gas, but several connections in the exhaust plumbing are just held together with a spot weld, so I have a good feeling that the problem's coming from one of those. I'll probably just slap an exhaust bandage on them for the time being since as soon as the suspension's redone I'll have a 2" system with a 40 series Flowmaster installed (with the only break in the system just aft of the muffler and held together by a 3-bolt flange).

Just did the 2.25" exhaust system upgrade with a Thrush version of the FlowMaster 40, only $29 shipped from Summit.
Your going to love it! Lots more useable power and at freeway cruise is very quiet. It only speaks when you step on it. Makes me keep my foot out of it for better mileage..............
I ordered my Aussie gaskets last week $37 for both. I have too many leaks with the FelPro even after having both the head and the manifolds resurfaced during the rebuild.

Yeah I hope I can get the exhaust done up soon. I need to fix the suspension first though, because the rear has sagged so much over the years (want to allow plenty of room to plumb the system). Did you get a glaspack or turbo muffler?

This slight leak I have now goes away when the engine is warm, but looking at the manifold gasket, I can see a couple little spots where it's leaking on the botton. I'm going to go over all the manifold nuts and ensure they're all torqued correctly in a few days here, so hopefully one was just a bit loose and torquing it will fix the leak. One thing's for sure, it's still worlds quieter than it was before the aussie gaskets.

The Thrush version of the Flow Master 40 is neither a pack or turbo. It is considered a chambered design. It is a fully welded muffler and nothing to burn out or change over time. $29 beats paying the $82 Flow Master 40 price. I understand the patent rights expired on the 40 series so lots of folks are making them now. I just chose the Thrush version since it was reasonably priced and available through Summit and Jegs.

2.25" pipe relieved alot of back pressure so the leaks I have on the intake manifold gasket are a little more tolerable, (idle isn't too bad at 550-600). Oil pressure stays at 45 pounds. It really kicks loose and scoots and still gets 22.5 mpg. I fill up every two days, so I minimize the jack rabbit starts and the passing on the back roads. However, when I need to it really comes to life.
