Doug - I read your article in SSRN #21 about the oil pans. You said the "369" pan came on '77-'84 engines (I think, don't have it here at the library with me), but my '73 225 had it stock. A lot of different styles used over the years I guess.

What pan would you suggest for drag racing? A large sump pan for more (?) oil capacity, or a small sump pan like the 369 so the oil stays close to the pickup tube?

Thanks for the input on the "369" pan. I think you are correct that these pans were used in earler years. I'm still collecting info. on all the pans and what they came in so everybody please give feedback.

As for small verse large pan sump, I tend to go with the larger sumps to reduce "windage". I weld-in "dams & doors" to keep the oil at the pick-up.

Post subject:  Re: Oil pan part numbers

Thanks Doug,

Any additional notes or info. on what the differences where on some of these? Looks like I have more "research" to do!

As we all know, finding-out what is out there is an important step, knowing what pans & pick-ups swap into what for the "best" (working) solution is the next piece of time-saving info. I'll keep working on that part so everyone keep "feeding" me info. as you come accross it.
