I have a rebuilt shortblock and a set of melling lifters. There are no instructions and found nothing related in the book so I just wanted to be sure...

Some of the lifters have slightly different profiles (smaller/larger holes) and some are black and some mettalic (uneven number of each). At first I thought each color went to intake/exhaust side but there wasnt enough of each for that. So do I just pop these in in any order or what?

They really should all be tha same - Put them in in no particular order, But Use engine assembly lube on them.

Are You dealing with an 81 - Newer Motor?

80 And Older lifters Should not have any holes in them as they are Solid Liter motors.
