if you have disc brakes, it could be that the pads and are rattling in the caliper. i would double check the bushings. they don't usually rattle, almost always clunk. also check the shock mount bushings.

I got underneath and started tapping the control arms and everything with a rubber mallet to see if I could duplicate the sound, and I found out that the two caliper bolts (the smaller ones that hold the caliper to the bracket) had worked loose already. I tightenend 'em down good and for now the noise seems to have gone away. I'm going to listen closely every time I go over a crappy road (oh wait, that's every road in downtown Spokane) to see if the sound developes again, and hopefully it'll stay gone.
