hellos sl6 sages and our doctor- just read a short article in mcg mag on the sl6 racing. always amazes me how the sl6 can be modified to produce serious power. anyway, there was a picture of a sl6 racer which was a 53 ford 4door with a sl6 in it. had a 53 ford 2door with a flathead v8 which is physically much smaller than a modern v8 and sits much lower in the compartment. doctor dougmo i think was at this race and must have seen it. perhaps other sages from this forum were there. question is how much modification was needed to put in the sl6? must have been hell on the rocks. 53 had a 3 spd or electric overdrive or 2 spd fordamatic trans which im sure wont adapt to a sl6 bell. by theway im bob fisher. computer had a fubar and im known as userhelp. regards bf

The SL6 fir into that 53 F@%d like it was ment to be there.
They used the SL6 transmission and made-up their own engine mounts and trans bracket.

thanks doctor dougmo for your info. wish i could have seen that 53 you saw. the sl6 trans it had- was it a 3 spd or 4spd 833? wouldnt think a torqueflite would fit. the ford 3 spd i had behind the stock 53 flathead was a small transmission. the 53 ford was a heavy car with a complete frame like most old tanks pre-56 had. how did it perform. thats a lot of weight for a sl6 to pull. drove a 60 seneca with a sl6 and 3spd stick which wasnt bad in 1st but dead as hell in 2d and 3d, even though it probably had a 3.55 axle in those days. the old poly 318 would have run like hell in the 53 with a 3 spd stick, but i dont think it would have fit in the compartment .regards bob fisher

Bob, the car you refer to belongs to Fopar on this forum. He checks in once in a while. You can pm him.
Car runs high fifteens. Richard (fopar) is one heck of a driver/competitor.

The car your thinking of should be a brown 50's ford four door, than I ran next to him maybe two weeks ago at the woodburn drags for mopar days. He runs a slant 6 with a A904 behind it. He had some custom headers, a four barrel 600cfm, and I don't know what cam he was running. Anyways, he ran a 15.56 than he red lit the next round. real nice guy to talk too.
