D: Other. Tell him you were blowin' smoke, go buy a couple of beers, and deal with him laughing at you for an afternoon.

This is possible with few mods, if the guy knew what to change, matched and installed the right equipment, and didn't have to meet the current emissions standard.

I think you're gonna have to go with 'D' on this one...

(Usually when someone gets in my face about a wimpy slant 6 vs. some V-8, I reply with "Let's race apples with apples not apples and oranges...I got 225 cubes and 6 cylinders...so you have to lose 2 spark plug wires and then we can race!")

A properly applied strip of duct tape will prevent this from occuring again.
It worked for me. :D :D

Just race him like they do on "Pinks". Negotiate the head start. Ask for 20 car lengths. 8)

I really wouldn't worry about it. If he's claiming 500 horse from a street 305 (unless he's giving it the big hose) he's full of shyt anyway too.

This is possible with few mods,
True (a few serious mods), but few folks building up 500 HP SBC's start with 305's. And most of those who talk about having 500 HP didn't get the number from a dyno.

Let it go.
Check your ego, it's about to be crushed.
You woud seriously consider spending all that time and money for ego's sake just because you talked smack with some local? That's just nuts.

I think you should drop it........but if you want to cut yourself, I would go with D.I.'s suggestion. Lose 2 plug wires........ That would be a good race. :D :D
(I hope your just kidding about betting pinks.) :|
