I looked at Hurst and B&M, but didn't really see anything that'd look like it would work with a bench seat installed. Now that I've made up my mind to keep a 3-spd auto and save up for a Gear Vendors overdrive, I want to lose the column shift and install a floor shifter. No real reason behind it, except it's just a personal preference.

does anyone here use a floor shifter with an automatic and the bench seat still installed in their A body?

I have a bench seat and use the promatic 2...its a ratchet shifter so the sitck basically is in the same place except for parl amd reverse. Fits in a tight space and now that I am used to ratcheting, I love the shifter. I just didn't need a quarter stick..

I have a Quarterstick in my '66 with a bench, a buddy has the equivalent B&M in his '70 Dart with a bench. Both work fine.

I ran the ProMatic 2 in my Duster with a bench and buckets at different times. It worked well too.

Question for both you guys: how are the shifters as far as ease of reaching?

Since I plan ton obtain a Gear Vendors unit, I'd like a shifter I can install a button on to control it with, plus I'm planning on a fully manual valve body when I figure out if keeping the 904 or going with a 727 will be my best option, so would a ratcheting shifter work for that?

Jopapa,

Please expand a tad on what "control it" means. For instance the ProMatic uses a cable ....are you wanting to somehow control the shift electrically and replace the cable? Or do you just want to mount a button on the shifter handle and have the button control something like the neutral safety switch...or ?

Thanks

My personal feeling is that a ratchet shifter is a pain in the ass with a full manual valve body. :P

Since the Gear Vendors unit is controlled by a pushbutton, I wanted something on the shifter that I could hit to control that. Now that you mention it though, a NSS and Reverse light switch I wouldn't even think are necessary, because aren't they installed on the transmission itself, with the 904 and 727?

Slantzilla, that's pretty much what I was wondering. So methinks I'm going to want a gated shifter in this case...

If the GV unit only requires a momentary contact, you can get shifter handles with a PB in them.

My QS is the pistol grip style that has a button on the top of the handle. :D

If you really, really want to have fun with a RMVB, get ahold of an old set of Hurst Lightning Rods. I have a 3 stick set that I had in my Valiant for a couple years.

RMVB = Reverse Manual Valve Body?

I think I'd be better off with a forward valve body, just in case I let anyone else ever drive my car...

Yes,

THe neutral safety swiitch and reverse light switch is on the tranny...unless like many where that switch doesn't work. The Promatic has the switch built into the shifter itself. I don't remember if the 1/4sitck does...

Easy, don't let anyone drive your car!
