Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but what is the 63 Dart, slant 6 pushbutton tranny called? Is is a 904? Or something else? Thanks for the help.

I think it's called a 904 cable shifted, there is something about the drive line u-joint (the front one) that is different frome the later 904's

Not so dumb if you don't know------
If the pan under the trans is almost square it's a 904,
if it has a leg out to under the dip stick it's a 727......

The early ones will have a ball and trunnion ujoint (detroit ball in chev lingo),
later models after 65 will have a slip yoke......
Models up to 65 will all be cable pushbutton shift, 65
will still be cable shift but moved to the column (or floor shift),
66 and later linkage shift.

odd's say you got a 904

The automatic trans in a '63 Dart is indeed a 904. It is informally called a cable-shift 904, or a dual-pump 904, and it has a flanged rather than splined output shaft.

It is not a 727.

Thank you everyone. That's what I figured, but I wanted to be sure.
